Marcus Hissen, trombonist
Previous Next
Artist Description Marcus Hissen has been a trombonist with the Victoria Symphony since 2004. In addition to a busy schedule of dynamic and challenging orchestral repertoire, he contributes passionately to the Symphony's outreach and eduction programs.
Driven by the belief that the performing arts find their greatest relevance within the context of the local community, Marcus directs his energies toward developing diverse collaborations with other regional artists.
In 2007 Marcus founded the Victoria Music Corner Ensemble which combines stories, acting, games and musicianship for young children by four professional musicians who represent all the different families of instruments in the symphony orchestra. The group's mission is to use this unique blend of interactive storytelling with live classical music to guide young children toward community, achievement, responsibility, health, and curiosity.
In 2005, Marcus was co-director of Gros Morne Summer Music, a unique and innovative chamber music festival in rural Newfoundland. His experiences with GMSM spawned a strong conviction that creative arts are key to overcoming the growing ecological problems that we all share. |
