Artist Description Lead by local jazz trumpeter Lew Custode, ?The Bourbon Street Brass? continues to be one of Western New York's most versatile and sought-after musical ensembles. While the individual members of the band pride themselves on excellent musicianship, the group?s forte continues to be their ability (and willingness) to entertain. One needs only to be in their presence for a brief moment before realizing that these four very accomplished musicians will play, sing, and do just about everything possible to keep their audience entertained?and isn?t this what music is all about?
From the first note of any given performance, the listener is immediately reminded of the excitement and passion of Bourbon Street, located within the heart of ?The French Quarter? in New Orleans, from which the band derives its name. The ensemble switches effortlessly between the traditional two beat marching rhythm (employing the bass horn and banjo) and the driving Chicago style swing (utilizing the string bass and acoustic guitar.) Both styles are played with equal proficiency and enthusiasm.
Their music can be described as energetic, inspired, sensitive, raucous, dynamic, emotional, danceable, and most of all, fun! The band?s seemingly endless repertoire includes Dixieland, Blues, Swing, Ragtime, Vaudeville, and much, much, more. The audience never really knows what is coming up next!
In a world of uncertainties, where so many things come and go, it is still nice to hear the musical art form that America gave to the world played so passionately. Such is the case with every performance of a group of guys who genuinely enjoy playing together, and being together, know as... ?The Bourbon Street Brass?.
